The Cubs have sent Dempster to Atlanta, so the Pirates will not have to face him Wednesday afternoon.

Series Notes
Coming off a sweep of the Marlins, the Pirates enter with a record of 54-40 (0.5 games back)… The Cubs were swept in St. Louis this weekend, and have a record of 38-56 (16.5 games back)… The Bucs begin a stretch of 13 straight games against the National League Central teams… Erik Bedard last 6.2 innings his last week in Colorado, which was his longest of his past six outings… Jeff Samardzija has one win in his last eight starts… James McDonald is 1-1 with a 9.31 ERA in his two starts since the All-Star break… Opponents have a .386 batting average against McDonald in those two starts… Former Pirate Paul Maholm makes his second start at PNC this season… Maholm is 4-0 with a 0.89 ERA in his last five outings… Kevin Correia is 3-0 with a 4.24 ERA in his last three starts… Ryan Dempster took the loss on May 25th vs. the Pirates, but allowed just one run in 7.1 innings… The Bucs have the best home record at 32-14… The Cubbies are 14-35 on the road… The Pirates swept Chicago in late May… The Buccos will travel to Wrigley Field next week for their first trip to the Windy City this season… The two teams will face each other seven times in September… Wednesday’s matinee will not be televised on ROOT Sports… There are no PNC Park promotions for this series.
