Bucco fans are becoming restless with Clint Barmes, who still looking for the answers at the plate. Meanwhile, Jordy Mercer is tearing it up at Triple-A Indianapolis, and many people on Twitter are beginning to tweet “#FreeJordyMercer”.
On Sunday afternoon, Neal Huntington mentioned on the radio show that Mercer could be called up sooner rather than later.
May come time we shuffle Navarro to minors and bring Mercer up. Jordy is doing nice job. We MAY get to that in future. NH—

After hitting just .238 in April, Mercer has been lighting up the opposition in May, hitting .352 (32 for 91) with 1 HR and 9 RBI in 23 games. He was 2 for 5 with a homer and 2 RBI in Indianapolis’ 9-4 win on Sunday night.
The 33-year old Barmes is down to just a .175 batting average on the year and is 7 for 35 (.200) over his last 12 games. His defense, which is his strength and what gives him value, was down at the beginning of the year but has since improved.
If Mercer can come up and produce on offense, as well as provide just as steady defense as Barmes has given, we are all for it. We’d give Clint a few more games, but strongly consider Mercer as soon as possible if Barmes can’t break his season-long slump by June 1st.
When do you think the Pirates should recall Jordy Mercer? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.
